After being so inspired today at Edcamphouston I decided to to blog about my logo for my website. It is also in the 'About Me' section of my website. Post comments let me know what you think. Spread it around. Subscribe to it!
Some of the biggest companies and Fortune 500 companies brand themselves with logos so people can easily recognize them. Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and several others have simple logos that people recognize all over the world. However how many of the companies don't explain why they chose their logo. Let me explain why I chose mine.
Since I started teaching graphic organizers have been my life. As you may have already known venn diagrams explain similarities, but they also share what they have in common. These differences can help bring about a new concept that requires differences to work together. Now for the fun part
You are inspired to collaborate with others to learn new ways of teaching and integrating. That is why I chose the human icons in the upper left hand corner.
CommunicateThe comic book bubble in green represents how as educators it is important to communicate with others. An educator shares their ideas with anyone who is willing to listen and vice versa. If you are not communicating with others how are you growing and sharing in your profession. We learn by communicating and sharing. There's power in the spoken and written word. If you want to make changes....you have to communicate.
What a great world we live in. We literally have the world at our finger tips. With just a click of a button we can easily communicate with educators from around the world and never leave our house. We have the opportunity to grow in our education profession, and if you're a TRUE educator you are connecting with others you are creating your Professional Learning Network to grow in your profession. You are not just doing it because the school and district tells you that you need professional development hours. I don't know if this happens but what would it be like if doctors, attorneys, and even CEOs only just did their professional development to get hours just for credit, and they didn't care about growth. We would honestly be a mess if every last one of them thought like that. Educators have the opportunity to grow and expand in their field if all they did was just connect. That is why connect is represented with the famous three bars.
As an educator you have the power to do all of these things together. It is represented as a chain or a link because you are as "strong as your weakest link". If you are integrating you are giving the opportunity for learners to learn in different ways. Everyone including you as an educator should always be learning and sharing with others. It is not just important for you to grow, it is important as an educator that you also help others grow. It's helps you grow even more. Never stop learning.
So if you are doing and/or attempting to try all for of these entities, that makes you an EdTechTinker! When people ask you about my logo tell them what it means. It means that you are an EdTechTinker that will:
Communicate Collaborate Connect and Integrate
Tink on EdTechTinkers
